I’m usually good with remembering important dates

Apparently I’m loosing my touch…

Today is Tom’s 40th birthday.

And I totally FORGOT ABOUT IT! (Warning to reader, there will be lots of caps on this post)

Between the move, the house, and everything else that’s running around (without breaks) inside my brain, I TOTALLY FORGOT TOM’S BIRTHDAY.  And not just any birthday, but THE BIG ONE!!!

You know how I remember it? My iPhone sent me a reminder this morning. Let me repeat that for those in back of the room… MY IPHONE REMINDED ME THIS MORNING!

Bad, Bad, Bad…

The worse part of all of this is that, before THE MOVE, the new house, and everything else, I was really working this up. I was checking out travel sites, and out of the way nooks that I could zip him away for a BIG birthday weekend (like I did last year, and needed to top this year). Because, you know, it would be the BIG ONE! (Sorry, have I said that ALREADY?)

:::Sigh::

If it all had worked out, we will be on a plane today, en route to an International romantic location on the beach, just us, ready to drink sweet drinks with colorful umbrellas and lay on the hot Caribbean sun making sure we work those tan lines.

Instead, I’m at work, wondering how in the hell am I going to make up for this HUGE oversight. And, Internet,  I’m clueless! Totally and mentally void of any ideas. I cannot even come up with a good restaurant idea to take him! And trust me, after the total crazy I been dishing out for the past 3 weeks, he totally deserved the pampering.

This morning, after the reminder from the iPhone, I walked up to this sleepy man, sitting on our bed and sat on his lap and simply told him “Happy Birthday”. Just like that, no over-the-top hop-la, no hidden presents, not even a sappy card. Because, how do I begin to tell this man, what he means to me?

I could attempt to write something, about the relationship we have, the relationship I’m so damn proud of I want to list it on a top ten list and shout it out to the world. This man, who has been in my life for such a short time, but has made such a huge impact. He is my home, my friend, my love. He is full of loyalty and kindness and generosity and good times and great friends. Never judgmental, never opinionated, never pretentious. He is laughs and gestures and moments that astonish me with their simplicity and their magnitude.

He is at his best in spotted jeans and t-shirts full of holes, dirty hands and rolling on the floor with the dogs. He is stubborn, and forgetful and proud. He is a musician, a painter, a dreamer, a softy inside. He is my grand prize, my accomplishment, my voice of reason.  He is loved by his son, brother, mother and me.

And today he is another year older.

And today, I will offer a simple “Happy Birthday” and a promise that many more will come.

Hopefully with passports, and fruity drinks, and hot sand between our toes

Did we rock the vote?

Did we make history?

Did we mature as a nation?

Did all our efforts paid off?

Did my vote count?

DID WE KICK SOME SERIOUS BUTT?

Did we gain back some  of our respect in the eyes of the world?

Are WE ready to walk the talk?

yes!, yes!, yes!, yes!, yes!, yes! yes!, yes!, yes!, yes!, yes!, yes!

Never been more proud of my US citizenship than now… now back to the bubbling.

It has taken me 22+ years to do this

As some may not know… I’m not from the US.  In fact I came to the US when I was 7-8 years old. That is why I’m such a bad speller and have horrible grammar.  You try to keep up three languages straight on your head.

Go ahead, I dare you!

Unfortunately English was the last one I learned, so its the one in most need of help.

Plus, I’m sorry… but next to Spanish and Italian.. the English language… not.so.pretty.

But, that is not what I’m posting about.

What I’m posting about is something that up till now, I have not had the privilege to do. (Or frankly the desired to do)

Wana guest Internet?  And no, its not that.. or that…

But it is this: VOTING

Tomorrow I will participate in my first elections in the US.  And I’m so proud that my participation will decided the biggest showdown that this country has seen. And I will look back on this and know that my vote counted and in part will be making history.

Because if anyone still out there has any real belief that OBAMA will not be the next president of the US, better crawl back to their REAL AMERICAN hole.  Us FAKE AMERICAN are taking control.

Counting…Everyone seems to be doing this…

Here I am sitting at work counting… COUNTING the hours left for me to get out of here today T-30 minutes…

And then the count down begins again tomorrow, when all I have to do is get through 8 hours of work, because then I will be free… LIBERATED! Of bosses, co-workers, deadlines and stupidity for TWELVE whole days!

Instead, I will be in Argentina, with my core friends, who I have not seen for over 6 months and seriously people…I was in the verge of entering withdrawal symptoms, due to lack of contact with people that understand me because well, they won’t let my crazy slide.

We will have marathon talking sessions about the new boyfriend, living with the boyfriend, the new house, and living in the house while remodeling the house, and we will talk about the circus that it’s the US elections, because this is the first time I get to VOTE in this country.  And let me tell you, I’m going to fully exercise my right to VOTE!

I have never been a fan of politics, coming from a country where politics are truly dead due to the amount of corruption and lack of trust on any given candidate (they all end up corrupt at the end), so I never really got excited about it.

But, NOW?

OMG, its like I can not live without reading the headlines every day, I want to find out the stupidity that comes from Palin and wailing of McCain… the debate schedule is downloaded on my iPod calendar, and my DVR is programmed to record them. Political blogs are being read almost on a 30 minute intervals just so I don’t miss all the juiciness that these two candidates are dishing out.
