Half way mark and almost home

1 Jun

Ok, we are at the half way mark of the year and of the BIG move!

Seriously, I still cannot believe that today marks the 6-month of point of the year. Where in the world has the time gone by? It seem only yesterday, that I was counting the days to take off to our North Carolina trip, and that seem like never ending!

But now, we are in the half way point of our move and let me tell you out of all the moves I have done in my life, this is the one that I’m looking forward to the most. I can not tell you if it’s a combination of getting out of the hell hole we live in now or the fact that its “our” house. Not, “Tom’s house” but “ours”. One that we found together and we agreed to live in it together and we will fix it up together. It’s a different feeling – its hard to explain it. As much as he wanted to make his old home my house when I moved to it 10 months ago, I could never get use to it. It was his stuff around, his taste and as much as I tried to infuse it with anything of mine, it just did not work, and it never felt like “home”.

This time around, it would work.

Over the weekend we started to do the little projects around the new house. We built a subfloor for the outside shed, which will be his “man-cave” until we built something bigger for him. We measured the whole kitchen, because we have a major remodel for that area in the coming weeks. We hooked up the new washer and dryers. We plotted out the furniture placement. And then we sat in our new big back yard under the shade of a huge oak tree and picture all the future get-togethers, dinners and major BBQ in the coming months that that space will be hosting.

We still have the major hurdle this weekend with the “big” move. So there is still one big truck rental and lots of shoving and lifting and the of course weeks of unpacking and organizing.  But, we see the light at the end of the tunnel.

We cannot wait until we turn off the light in the new bedroom and wake up to new sounds and new smells and finally say “We are home”.
